I use ... alot...

Don't know why. Not meant to trail into silence. Maybe to lend something extra...
Shane sounds like a piece of shit...
[this is good]

I love ya sir but this response will formally end our online friendship. Thankfully, I still get to see you in person.

Right or wrong, I use them often (and like it).

I think ellipsis are also good for increasing the punch of an insult, i.e. "You sure are a dumb-ass..." And it's not to trail off into silence, but more to let that insult linger in the air and leave the person it's directed at wondering just what the hell is NOT being said. It's like a "Hitchcockian insult." (Or maybe I'm just "overthinking it.")

I definitely use ellipsis more than I should, but I try to avoid the annoying passive-aggressive behavior you noted. I, too, have been subjected to that by supervisors and the like; it is unbelievably annoying. ("I would really like it if you could get that paperwork on my desk by tomorrow..."? GROW A PAIR AND USE A GODDAMN PERIOD.)

face..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

As someone who definitely overuses the ellipsis, I shall take this opportunity to apologize for any of my past passive aggressive behaviors or ambiguity.

It's funny that you write about this because I have tried to cut back on my addiction of using them. I use them as a sort of "I don't know how to end this sentence and it could possibly go on but not necessarily." Since I can't end a sentence like that, the ellipsis seems to lend itself well. The problem is that I don't really have anything else to say most of the time so I shouldn't pretend like I do.

Nice post, for sure.
As I think about it more, I'm really surmising that most folks who use them often, use them in the "unfinished thought" mode, as opposed to the "trail of in silence and feel free to blow me" mode. So from now on, I just need to assume it's the former and not the latter.
As an over user of ... I recommend you not read my blog.
I completely disagree with that statement and will continue to read your blog, as well as subscribe to your newsletter, should you choose to start one.

Wow. I thoroughly enjoyed this post for the obvious reason of all of the swearing. It definately sounds like there are some anger issues at work Soop. What is the deal?

However, I do love that little things like ellipses bother you. They don't bother me, but other things that seem so stupid to others make me want to crawl out of my skin. I feel your pain.

You make me feel normal.

It's funny how little things set you off, but these damn dots have always bugged me, and I think after seeing them constantly in e-mails and what not for 3 straight days set me off. With a cooler head, I definitely overreacted, but I'm positive if I see them used constantly for another couple days the anger will be back. You make me feel normal as well, love you G!
Yikes.
When I said "you" in my earlier reply, I meant "people" not "gina specifically", just realized how that could be read wrong.
Not so. It was just a poorly-delivered pickup line.
